Tornado Wipes Out Oklahoma Town Overnight, Killing 1
Barnsdall Hit By Second Tornado in Just Over a Month
Initial Search Rescues 25 People
At least one person in Oklahoma has died as a result of a tornado that ripped through small towns as severe storms moved from Texas into Oklahoma Sunday night into Monday morning.
For Barnsdall, it was the second tornado to hit in just over a month. On April 1, an EF1 tornado on the 0-to-5 scale for intensity caused damage to homes and businesses in the town.
The latest tornado, which has not yet been rated, destroyed homes and toppled trees and power lines when it roared through the town overnight. During an initial search Monday night after the tornado, about 25 people were rescued, including several who were trapped in their homes.
Just five weeks ago, an EF1 tornado tore a 2-mile path through the southeast side of Barnsdall, damaging homes and businesses. The town is still recovering from that tornado, and the latest tornado has caused even more damage.
