5 Little Monkeys Lesson Plan
Introduction
The classic nursery rhyme "5 Little Monkeys" is a great way to teach young children about counting, sequencing, and simple addition and subtraction. This lesson plan provides a variety of activities that you can use to teach this rhyme to your students.
Materials
- Chart paper or whiteboard
- Markers
- 5 stuffed monkeys or puppets
- A bed or other large object for the monkeys to jump on
- A doctor's kit (optional)
Procedure
- Sing the "5 Little Monkeys" rhyme with your students.
- As you sing the rhyme, point to the chart paper or whiteboard and write down the numbers 1-5.
- Have your students help you count the monkeys as they jump on the bed.
- When the monkeys fall off the bed, have your students help you cross out the numbers on the chart paper or whiteboard.
- Continue singing the rhyme until all of the monkeys have fallen off the bed.

- Have your students create their own "5 Little Monkeys" rhyme.
